Here at the Department of Web, we teamed up with Good People Digital, a digital agency from the United States, for a long-term partnership. Our job? To turn their designs into real, working websites. Over several years, we've worked on almost 50 websites, picking the best tech for each project and making sure everything worked perfectly. In terms of technology, we chose WordPress as our primary platform for a majority of the websites. WordPress is renowned for its extensibility and user-friendly interface, which is a great choice for both website administrators and developers. According to W3Techs, as of 2023, WordPress powers nearly 42% of all websites on the internet1, making it the most popular content management system (CMS) available.
With each website, we started from scratch, creating a unique, custom theme based on the provided designs. This approach ensured that every website was not only of the highest quality but also unique in its presentation and functionality. To speed up the development, we came up with our own starter theme and a couple of patterns we could reuse from project to project.
For the more dynamic parts of the websites, we employed ESNext JavaScript, a testament to our commitment to using cutting-edge technology where it made the most sense. Additionally, to maintain a uniform, high-quality codebase, we adhered to coding standards and implemented automated tests and deployments. This automated approach reduced manual errors, improved efficiency, and ensured that we consistently delivered optimal results.
Managing multiple projects simultaneously, each with its ever-changing requirements, proved to be a complex task. The communication flow from us to Good People Digital and then to the end client added another layer of complexity.
